Error code
22

Code 22 in Device Manager means the device is disabled; Microsoft attributes it to disabling through Device Manager. It is not Code 10, which indicates failure to start, and does not prove that a driver is missing.

Windows Code 22: device disabled

Check why the device was disabled and enable only that entry when appropriate.

  1. Confirm the code and deviceDo not enable entries based on similar names.

Step-by-step solutions

01

Confirm the code and device

Do not enable entries based on similar names.

  1. Open Device Manager from Start and open the affected entry’s Properties. Read the full code under Device status.

  2. Check whether you or IT disabled it intentionally. On work devices, do not reverse a restriction without checking.

02

Enable the entry when authorized

This changes its state rather than installing another driver.

  1. Select the correct device and choose Action > Enable Device. Follow the wizard or equivalent option shown by Windows.

  2. Read Device status again and test its function. If another code appears, follow that diagnosis instead of repeatedly toggling the device.

Next step

Still not working?

If enabling is unavailable or the device becomes disabled again, contact IT or the manufacturer with the new code and exact name. Do not change BIOS or registry settings for Code 22 without further evidence.
