Step-by-step solutions
Restart Windows
Rule out temporary client state.
Save your work and restart Windows from Start.
Open Steam once and note whether a window or message appears.
Record blocks and recent changes
Give support evidence of the failure.
Check whether security software logged a Steam block and record recent changes.
Give Steam Support the message and restart result. Keep protection enabled and avoid broad exclusions.
Advanced checks
Continue if the earlier steps did not help. Read each procedure’s precautions first.
Repair the existing installation
Use the official installer without uninstalling first.
Download Steam from store.steampowered.com/about.
Close Steam and install to its current location. If you cannot identify that folder, ask support before proceeding.
Still not working?
If it still will not open, report the exit timing and any error to Steam Support. Reinstalling games is not the next step for a client that cannot start.

Steam cannot start the game: missing executable
Steam cannot launch the game because a required file is missing or another program is blocking access. A failed download, damaged file or security quarantine may be involved; antivirus is not always the cause.
