Error code
NW-102417-5

NW-102417-5 indicates a network connection timed out. Sony’s code-specific documentation includes several possibilities, not a diagnosis of DNS, router or account failure. The failed test stage and wired, device and service comparisons help decide what to investigate.

PS5 error NW-102417-5

The network connection timed out. Try a stable connection and check service status before changing DNS or opening ports.

Step-by-step solutions

01

Record which stage times out

Use the connection-test result to choose the next check.

  1. Sony defines NW-102417-5 as a network connection timing out. It does not by itself identify a broken router, incorrect DNS or invalid password. Note whether it occurs during sign-in, Store access, downloading or gameplay.

  2. Keep the results for obtaining an IP address, internet connection and PlayStation Network sign-in. Do not change settings yet.

    1. Settings
    2. Network
    3. Connection Status
    4. Test Internet Connection
  3. If it cannot obtain an IP, the console has not completed local network access: follow the link branch. If it obtains an IP but not internet, compare other devices. If internet works but PSN or one operation fails, follow the service branch. If the test passes but the error returns, note that difference: passing a single test does not rule out intermittency.

02

Check service before repairing the network

  1. Check the official PlayStation status page from another device. If an incident matches the affected feature, wait for recovery and repeat that operation. Do not change DNS or reinstall the console while a known service-side cause exists.

  2. If status reports no incident, that does not verify your route to PlayStation. Distinguish all features failing from one game: if Store and sign-in work but a game cannot connect, also check that game’s official status.

  3. If PSN still fails, compare the same operation over Ethernet or on another trusted, authorized network when feasible. Mobile networks may have costs and limits: do not download games for this test. If it works away from home, give that result to the provider; it does not establish a faulty console.

  4. If different networks fail while service appears available, save progress and restart PS5 normally once. If already done or the error returns, contact PlayStation with the time, feature and results; do not change the password without an authentication message justifying it.

04

Confirm the shared failure’s scope

  1. Try a familiar website from another device on the same network, without accidentally using mobile data. If it also has no internet, the problem extends beyond PS5. Check provider notices and modem status following its manufacturer’s guidance.

  2. If the provider confirms an outage, wait for recovery. If there is no known incident and several devices still cannot connect, a coordinated modem/router restart is a relevant test; continue to the advanced branch before doing it.

  3. If other devices work, do not routinely restart everyone’s network. Return to PS5’s result: an IP failure points toward local configuration; internet success with PSN failure points toward service or route. A working website on a phone does not test every PlayStation service.

Continue if the earlier steps did not help. Read each procedure’s precautions first.

05

Change only the setting justified by the evidence

  1. If several devices fail and a restart is appropriate, coordinate the interruption and follow the manufacturer’s procedure. Sony specifies turning router and modem off, waiting at least five minutes and powering them back on. Wait for network recovery and repeat the test; do not use Reset.

  2. If only PS5 fails and you manually configured IP, DNS or proxy, record the original values and ask the administrator what this network requires. IP identifies the console on the network; DNS finds service addresses. A value copied from another network may not apply, but this timeout does not identify which setting is wrong.

  3. Only restore a known-correct setting or test temporary DNS when the provider’s diagnosis points to name resolution. Change one variable, repeat the same operation and restore the previous value if there is no improvement. Do not erase managed-network configuration.

  4. Sony’s page also mentions firmware, ports and a static IP. These are not requirements for this code: firmware needs exact-model instructions and stable power; ports and IP require assessing the network with its owner. Do not open broad ranges or use DMZ as a test. Without a specific hypothesis, stop with the comparisons already collected.

Next step

Still not working?

For PlayStation or your provider, prepare the full code, time, operation, PS5 model, system version, IP/internet/PSN results and Wi-Fi/Ethernet/alternative-network comparison. State which other devices fail and whether an official incident existed. Do not publish passwords or your public IP. If all devices fail, prioritize the provider; if PS5 also fails on another network with service available, prioritize PlayStation without resetting it.
