Step-by-step solutions
Restart Windows and test the device
Use Restart rather than cutting power.
Save documents and finish active operations. Choose Restart from Start and wait for Windows to become available again.
Test the device and check whether Code 38 has cleared. Do not download unofficial drivers or use external memory-cleaning utilities.
Still not working?
If the same code returns after a normal restart, contact the manufacturer or Microsoft with the model and when it recurs. Do not repeatedly force restarts or remove drivers while they are in use.
