ProblemThis guide covers sound from iPhone itself. For headphones alone, follow that check; if other people cannot hear your voice, check the microphone. One missing sound does not establish speaker failure.

No sound or distorted speaker audio on iPhone

Step-by-step solutions

01

Check Silent mode, Focus and volume

Test at a moderate volume.

  1. Check Silent mode and, for alerts or calls, Focus/Do Not Disturb. Temporarily disable what silences the test and restore your preferences afterward.

  2. In sound settings, test the ringtone and alert volume control. Do not turn volume to maximum to compensate for distorted sound.

02

Check speaker and receiver without inserting objects

Remove anything covering the openings.

  1. Remove the case or protector if it blocks the speaker or receiver. Check for visible dirt and follow Apple’s external-cleaning guidance.

  2. Test a call to compare sound. If failure occurs only on one call or connection, do not infer a speaker fault from that single test.

Next step

Still not working?

If sound stays absent or distorted across different tests, contact Apple. Do not insert needles, swabs or other objects into openings or open the device.
