The screen shows an image but does not respond properly to touch. Check the surface, case and protector before changing apps or erasing data.

Step-by-step solutions
Remove interference from the surface
Do not press on a cracked screen to test it.
Check for visible damage. If intact, temporarily remove the case or protector when this can be done without forcing the screen, and clean the surface following manufacturer guidance.
Test again with a clean, dry screen. If only one area fails, check whether it also happens outside the app you were using.

Restart before investigating apps
Save work if you can still control the phone.
Restart normally if it responds enough. Otherwise use only the manufacturer’s procedure for your model.
Test touch again. If failure occurs only in one app, continue with app troubleshooting; otherwise compare in Safe Mode.
Compare Safe Mode when no damage is visible
The startup procedure depends on the model.
Follow the manufacturer’s official Safe Mode instructions and check touch response.
If it works there, review recently downloaded apps one at a time. Do not uninstall any without protecting local data you need first.
Still not working?
If touch still fails after cleaning and restarting, or damage is visible, request service. Do not use factory reset as an initial touchscreen test.
