Step-by-step solutions
Check status and run the test
Get the specific error before changing settings.
Check Xbox Status from another device. If the service you need has an outage, wait for it to recover.
On the console open Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings > Test network connection. Record the complete message if it fails.
Check the selected wireless network
Confirm the network and password; distinguish a missing network from a rejected connection.
In Network settings open Manage wireless networks > Set up wireless network; some versions show the second option directly. Choose your network and enter its password.
If no networks appear, save your progress and restart normally through Power Center > Restart console. If other networks appear but yours does not, ask its administrator to check its configuration.
Check the wired link
Check both ends before changing internet settings.
Check the cable between console and router. Stop using a damaged cable; do not try to repair exposed conductors.
Reconnect both ends securely and try another available LAN port on the router. Run Test network connection again.
Still not working?
Use the exact-error branch in the official Xbox troubleshooter under Sources. If the network test passes but multiplayer fails, use its multiplayer/NAT branch. Do not open ports or disable the firewall for a generic connection failure.
