PS5 controller won't connect

Step-by-step solutions
Pair the DualSense over USB
Use the included cable and press PS with the console on.
Turn on the PS5 and connect the DualSense using the included USB cable. Press the PS button.
Check for the player indicator and try navigating the menu. Once the battery has enough charge, disconnect the cable and check control again.
Record which connection mode fails
Comparing wired and wireless response keeps different failures separate.
If it responds while connected but stops when unplugged, let it charge and repeat that comparison once. Note whether it turns off or remains on without controlling the console.
If it does not respond while connected either, check that the connector is seated. A phone charging cable is not necessarily a substitute for the USB cable used for pairing. Do not force the port.
Check for an update if you can use the menu
This step needs a controller that can navigate.
Open Settings > Accessories > Controller (General) > DualSense Wireless Controller Device Software. Apply an update only if offered and follow the console instructions.
If no controller can access the menu, contact support; this path is not usable in that state.
Still not working?
If the included cable cannot pair it either, contact PlayStation Repairs with the controller model and wired/wireless comparison. Do not erase the PS5 to try to repair a controller.
