Step-by-step solutions
Check whether downloading can finish
Return to the state shown in Windows Update.
Check that another app has working internet access and the connection stays stable. Open Windows Update and check whether downloading is pending or failed.
If Retry is available and the earlier attempt has ended, use it once. Do not delete caches while downloading or installation remains active.
Use the troubleshooter before component cleanup
An incomplete download does not call for clearing the whole update system.
Run your version’s Windows Update troubleshooter and review its guidance. If a restart is requested, save work and restart normally.
Check for updates again. If the same download remains stuck, note which one it is for follow-up with Microsoft.
Still not working?
If downloading cannot finish, ask for help with that update and connection. Cache cleanup can remove downloaded files and require downloading again; reserve it for a specific procedure whose consequences are clear.
