Step-by-step solutions
Check space without deleting content yet
Also read any specific amount Windows requests.
Open Storage in Settings and review available space on the Windows drive. Compare it with any requirement shown by the update.
If space must be freed, choose recoverable content and back up important data before deletion. If enough space is available, continue with the troubleshooter rather than deleting as a test.
Try the troubleshooter and retry
A possible component problem is not a reason to edit partitions.
Run the Windows Update troubleshooter, review its proposals and retry after it finishes. Restart normally if requested.
On a computer using a VPN or managed configuration, tell IT about that setup if the error persists. Do not disable a corporate VPN or change partitions without a specific diagnosis.
Still not working?
If it keeps failing, give Microsoft or IT the update identifier, free space and troubleshooter result. Advanced component or partition repair needs case-specific instructions and a backup first.
