  1. Quit Discord from the system tray. Open Task Manager and end only Discord processes that remain active. This ends calls and app activity.

  2. Close the failed installer and retry a copy from the official download linked in Sources. On managed computers, use the IT-approved installation channel.

Reserve cleanup for an installation that still fails.

  1. Confirm you can sign in again and access your authentication methods. Close Discord and its installer.

  2. Open Run from Start, enter %appdata% and locate only the Discord folder. Repeat with %localappdata%. Preserve any local files you need elsewhere before deleting those two Discord folders.

  3. Do not delete AppData, Roaming, Local or other apps’ folders. If a file is in use, check processes instead of forcing permissions. Restart Windows and install again from the official download.
