Step-by-step solutions

01

Confirm your copy before reinstalling

Avoid removing a game you cannot retrieve.

  1. For a digital copy, check availability in the account’s library. For a disc, confirm that you have the correct disc and inspect it for dirt or damage.

  2. Do not try to repair a cracked disc or insert objects into the drive. The next reinstall step targets the game; do not select Saved Data.

02

Clean a dirty disc

Skip this for digital copies.

  1. Eject the disc normally. Use a soft, lint-free cloth intended for Blu-ray/DVD discs and wipe from the center outward.

  2. Reinsert it in the orientation specified for your console and try once. If the same code remains, consider reinstalling.

Continue if the earlier steps did not help. Read each procedure’s precautions first.

03

Reinstall only the affected game

Follow Sony’s path for the copy you own.

  1. On Home, highlight the game, press Options and choose Delete. Confirm the selection is the affected game, not a saved-data section.

  2. Reinstall from the library for a digital copy or from the clean disc. Let installation and downloads finish before testing.

Next step

Still not working?

If it returns, give PlayStation the code, title, digital/disc format and reinstall result. Do not assume older descriptions that limit this code to disc reading apply to every case.
